Prayer Guide

Downtown Brenham Prayer Walk

Saturday, February 18, 2023

Texas Church Leaders will have pastors present at Washington County Courthouse near the pavilion between 10:30 am and 3:00 pm to meet with groups and pray with individuals as there is opportunity.

We have publicly addressed our City Council and our Mayor about drag shows being held in businesses in downtown Brenham and the dangers that such shows present not just to our community, but also to young children that are getting exposed at younger and younger ages to sexual practice. We have also formally requested that legislation be passed to categorize these events as “adult oriented business,” which would prevent them from showing up in our schools, libraries, and other public venues where children may be present.

Our goal today is to pray and seek the Lord as we have teams of believers from numerous local churches walk through downtown Brenham praying over our community, businesses, government and churches. Below is the prayer guide for the event.

Prepare

Take a moment to pray quietly that the Lord would guide you in thought and prayer as you walk through downtown today.

Find a group of two to three others that you can walk with as you pray. Walking solo is fine, but Jesus sent out his disciples in teams.

It is alright to pause for a few minutes on your walk and pray for something thoroughly if the Lord is leading you to do so, but sometimes a single sentence prayer is perfectly fine.

Prayer is a conversation with our Heavenly Father. Take some time as you begin your walk to praise Him and thank Him. Express gratitude for the work He has done in our community and for the blessing we have to live in the great State of Texas. Enjoy the conversation you are about to have with him today.

As You Go

If you pray out loud, pray in conversational tones. Don’t make a scene or seek confrontation. If someone is confrontational to you, respond in a way that honors God. If someone asks you what you are doing, mention you are praying for our community and offer to pray for them as well.

Intentionally focus on what God is showing you or bringing to mind as you walk. Be alert to what God places before you as you go. He may be leading you to pray for something specifically that others might not see.

Pray For Our Community

Pray that God would remove all barriers to the gospel being proclaimed and received. Pray that He would work in the hearts of men, women, and children in our community to both convict them of sin, but also prepare them to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which men are saved!

Pray against Satan gaining a stronghold in our community remembering that, our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)

Ask that God would give you a growing burden share the hope that is within you and the Savior that you have found in Jesus Christ.

Pray For Our Businesses

Pray for business owners and employees as you walk by various storefronts. Pray that God would bless businesses that seek to conduct themselves in a way that aligns with His purposes and plans. Pray that there would be a growing desire in our local commerce to honor God in their practice and presence.

If there is event or business that is not honoring God, pray that the business ower(s) would be convicted by God of their sin and turn from their current path and repent. Pray that the Lord would remove their influence and status in our community as long as they continue to pursue ungodly paths that are displeasing to Him. Pray above all else, that God would soften their hearts and that they would know there is grace and forgiveness for sin.

Pray, as well, that they will encounter Christians who will build relationships with them and who will be willing to share the gospel. Ask God whether He is calling you to begin building a relationship with the owner for this purpose.

Pray For Our Government

Pray for our local government. Stop and pray at the Washington County Courthouse and Brenham City Hall. Pray for our elected officials, employees, and volunteers who are involved in making important recommendations and decisions. Pray that our elected officials and leaders will have the wisdom to seek God and the courage to follow His will in making decisions. Feel free to use your phone to open their webpages so that you can pray specifically by name for them:

www.cityofbrenham.org

Pray for our fire, police and first responders here in Washington County. They continually serve, often behind the scenes, so that our community stays safe. Ask for God to bless them and draw them near Himself, so that they might not only be strengthened, but find faith in Him.

Pray also for our schools, both private and public, here in our community. Pray for administrators and teachers. Pray that Godly servant-leadership would be normative on all levels within our district starting at the school board and that Biblical values would infuse each campus. Pray for the upcoming School Board Election.

Pray for parents to grow in their capacity to set healthy boundaries and discipline for their children and for the schools to seek to align with the values of our community.

Pray For Our Churches

Your pastor needs prayer too! Pray that the men who shepherd and spiritually lead this community would not grow weary or faint, but that God would renew their strength as they take refuge in Him.

Pray that as our churches in Washington County work together we might show those who not Christians the love, forgiveness and grace we have found in Jesus Christ. Pray that our witness would grow stronger as we seek to model unity between local churches.

Pray that you and others in your church would step forward to be the hands and feet of Christ as you continue to grow in your faith and grow more active in serving in your home church. Pray that we see true revival in our community that starts in our churches.
